It seems that the alleged Pakistan commander of the Islamic State has recently admitted to receiving funding from the US to recruit fighters in Syria.

There isn't much info on this story out there as of now, however there were allegations years ago that the Bush administration was funding Al-Qaeda groups to counter Iran.

Could there be some kind of connection between these two financial links?
