How the troubles in Ireland predicted the disaster in Iraq

When the US was preparing to invade Iraq, Brasscheck made the following prediction in writing:

"If the US goes into Iraq, it will be like 1,000 Belfasts."

We were the ONLY news outlet anywhere to make a prediction like this.

At the time, we thought we were exaggerating a bit to make the point: The flag waving morons had no idea what they were cheering the US into.

It turns out - from a strictly numerical point of view - Iraq cost the US 1,000 times more in terms of loss of life, civilian casualties, and dollars.

This clip is from a documentary on the IRA's bombing-making unit and one of their most militarily successful operations.

Tell me how an amateur historian knew more than the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the Pentagon about what was going to happen after the US invaded Iraq?

Because the people who should have known - the news media and the "Pentagon professionals" who feed them - stood to make money and career advancement from the war.

Here's another bombing from that conflict...this one set by Protestant paramilitaries, the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF), a group with direct connections to the British military, the Ulster Defence Regiment specifically.

War is a miserable, miserable thing.
