On April 19, 1995, six years before 9/11, there was another "terrorist attack" in the US that killed 168 and injured over 800.
Immediately after the attack, a blizzard of "domestic terrorism" legislation was rushed into Congress in a matter of days.
Items considered included: suspension of habeas corpus in terrorism cases and making it a crime punishable by up to five years in prison to publish "baseless conspiracy theories regarding the Federal government of the United States."
The government claim was that two men - home grown "anti-government" terrorists - conspired to detonate a truck bomb made of fertilizer in front of the Murrah Building, a federal office building.
The building contained the offices of several federal law enforcement agencies. All happened to be away from their offices the morning of the attack.
One of the world's leading authorities on conventional weapons - Brigadier General Benton Parton (ret.) - stated it was physically impossible for a truck bomb alone to do the kind of damage that was done to the building.
Partin requested a Congressional inquiry. He also requested samples from the collapsed building. Both requests were denied. The FBI which spent $81 million to investigate the attack, declined to make use of Partin's data and analysis.
