They spend billions on it every year.

Here's the good news: They're failing.

No one would accuse Noam Chomsky (or Brasscheck) of being soft-minded "pollyannas", but the reality is that control freaks burn themselves out in the long wrong.

First, maintaining illegitimate power is a lot of work. Second, it takes eternal, multi-generational vigilance to hang on to illegitimate power. Third, people who operate out of greed vs. people who operate out of principle have little staying power. Fourth, control freaks are not as smart as they think they are.
