A corrupt and heartless system

The right to a lawyer is not an old right. It started in 1963.

Your typical public defender handles 200 to 1000 per year.

In a city like New Orleans that works out to 7 minutes per case.

Some places don't have them. Others hire our "private" contractors. 40% of pubic defenders have no investigators at all which means there is no service in place to find exonerating evidence for the accused.

90% to 95% of accused people plead guilty, but many of them are innocent.

This is a corrupt and heartless system
