Former President Clinton, during his term, supported a move to force Haiti to remove tariffs on imported US rice.

This move was part of an idea that wealthy countries should provide poorer countries with their food so that they could begin to industrialize.

The policy lead to the destruction of Haiti rice farming and the country's ability to be self-sufficient.

Years later, in 2010, as Haiti suffered from the worst earthquake they'd experienced in centuries and residents suffered in more ways than one, Clinton realized his mistake.
