We report misconduct by police because the misconduct is far more widespread than reported and bad cops are rarely disciplined and even more rarely removed from duty.

It is a very, very serious problem. A percentage of police - no one knows how many - are dangerous. They're thieves, sadists, associates of criminals, rapists and child molesters.

In my little rural area in the last two years, one veteran detective was arrested for stealing thousands of dollars of drug buy money. Another - chief of a town's force - resigned after being caught molesting a child and was allowed to walk away from the charges.

But not all cops are bad. In fact, some like the guest on this show are people of high moral character. The problem is the "big middle" seems to be OK with "going along to get along" which leaves the psychopaths who are attracted to the opportunities a job in law enforcement offers them wide latitude.
