Thousands tortured, killed and 'disappeared'
Chile was the most democratic government in Latin America.
Its people elected Salvador Allende president.
Kissinger and Nixon didn't like it and gave the CIA a green light to take Allende down before he could take office.
Thousands of Chileans were tortured, murdered and 'disappeared' and a CIA-appointed thug General Augusto Pinochet took power.
Why did they do it?
They didn't want a democratically elected president in the country who they couldn't personally control because it might set a "bad example" to the rest of the world.
Right wing fascists, OK. Anything else, not permitted.
