I recently spent two wonderful weeks in one of my favorite cities, New Orleans, staying at the home of two dear friends who started out as subscribers to this letter.

Just down the street from their house at 1500 Magazine is Mojo's Coffee House, the social center of the neighborhood where I spent many a pleasant hour.

One of the baristas reminded me of Cynthia McKinney, the much maligned and thoroughly smeared Congresswoman from Georgia.

If you relied on the mass media, you'd assume McKinney was some kind of reckless nutcase.

In reality, she is the one and only member of Congress who had the courage to publicly ask the Pentagon it they managed to "misplace" $3 trillion dollars.

Thanks to my friends in New Orleans for preserving a reservoir of humanity in a country saturated with Wal-Marts and Humvees.
