A loss of civil liberties

After 9/11, Americans were in shock and likely to go along with anything their leaders proposed.

The USA Patriot Act was largely pushed through the legislative process in a way that discouraged public discourse and scrutiny.

As the name implied, anyone who didn’t go along with it was likely to be considered “unpatriotic”.

You may remember the iconic Bush line, “you’re either with us, or you’re with the terrorists”.

The law went into effect with the sacrifice of our civil liberties.
