This year the the hundredth anniversary of the beginning of the Armenian genocide by the Turkish government, then part of the Ottoman Empire.
Even to this day, Turkish official refuse to recognize the reality of the genocide, making it illegal to talk about the event, especially when referring to it as a genocide.
Interestingly, this particular tragedy is where the popular internet news network, The Young Turks, gets their name.
The rebels who were part of the uprising of the second-class Armenians called themselves the "Young Turks". In 1908, this new power began to emerge which worked to establish a more modern constitutional government in the nation.
What followed was pure horror, and known as the biggest genocide in history.
