Chemical straight jackets

Ticking time bombs

Homicide in a bottle

In the 1970s, there was an ethical debate within psychiatric circles whether it was right to use psychoactive agents to medicate severely disturbed mental patients solely for the purpose of making them easier to manage.

The concern was that resorting to such means might create the temptation to substitute what was then called a "chemical straight jacket" for comprehensive psychiatric care.

Today, just thirty years later, normal, healthy children are being compelled by the millions by a partnership of school systems and pharmaceutical companies to take drugs in order to make them...easier to manage.

The practice is demonic - and I'm not sure even that word adequately expresses the evil involved.
