Congress has just freed up some money in the budget to allow state and local law enforcement to purchase new DNA processing equipment.

The effort seems to have been spawned by the FBI, who set out goals in August of last year to "streamline and automate law enforcement's DNA collection processes".

The FBI is now encouraging law enforcement from all over the country to submit any DNA or identification info to them.

With the new technology explained in this short video, the goal seems to be to create a genetic index of people from all over the country.
