Government intelligence agencies have long since infiltrated the internet and blogosphere, hiring goons to attack and provoke people online, to exhaust them so they eventually stop posting. This is psychological warfare aimed at eliminating dissent. The game is to make the blogger or commentator think person X is a regular internet commentator but in fact they are a paid troll. Trolls are often characterized by an extreme maliciousness. Their aim is to shock, injure, and paralyze debate.
